Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team) DNF
“I felt some riders coming up the inside really fast as we approached Turn 1. Then something happened and it was just the domino effect—race over in the first corner. I’m okay other than my hand being pretty sore. It’s unfortunate. One of our bike’s strengths is generating heat in the tyres, and that’s what you need on a cold, wet track like this. Already on the warm-up lap, the bike felt good. It’s easy to say now, but I honestly feel like we could have put up a decent fight today and had some fun.”
Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team) DNF
“There’s really nothing to say about today, other than that I’m sorry beyond measure not to have been able to put on Sic’s T-shirt for the lap of honour. It’s truly a shame. I started well and all the conditions were in our favour for having a nice race, but we were unfortunate and received no points here either. We finish the season tied with Sic, with him ahead of me in the standings. I guess that’s my tribute to him!”

Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team)
“This morning I put my leathers on to go out, but I was still pretty uncomfortable. I went to the mobile clinic for a painkiller, and when I got there, the doctor said it would be better to get a proper scan. They set me up for an MRI at a local clinic, and the fractures were pretty clear. After talking to the doctor and my physiotherapist, we decided not to ride, even though we do have some stuff we’d like to test for Ducati. The scaphoid is a unique bone, and if you mess with it, it can take a long time to heal because it gets limited blood supply. I just have to be smart and watch the test. We’ll get some more opinions and decide whether to get surgery.”

Hayden undergoes wrist surgery Hayden wrist surgery Tuesday, 15 November 2011 The Ducati Team rider had an operation on Monday to insert a screw in the scaphoid in his right wrist, which he fractured in a crash at the Valencia GP.
Ducati Team rider Nicky Hayden underwent surgery on Monday 14th November to speed up the healing process on his right wrist, which was injured in a crash at the November 7th Valencia Grand Prix.
During the operation, which was carried out at the Fremont Sports Therapy and Surgery Centre in Fremont, California, USA, Dr. Arthur Ting placed a small screw in Hayden’s fractured scaphoid. The radial styloid, which is also fractured, was not treated.
“Everything went pretty smoothly,” Hayden said shortly after the operation. “The scaphoid is a slow-healing bone, so you don’t want to wait, only to find out in January that it’s not healing correctly. I’m happy to get it fixed right so that I’ll be ready to go when I need to be.”
After wearing a brace and using a bone stimulator for four weeks, Hayden will have his wrist X-rayed again to assess its status. He is confident of being at full fitness before his return to the track for the first day of the 2012 testing season on January 31st in Sepang, Malaysia.

Nicky Hayden sidelined by shoulder pain on day two of Sepang test
Wednesday, February 1st 2012, 13:23 GMT
Nicky Hayden could only manage 16 laps of running on the second day of MotoGP winter testing at Sepang today before pain from his injured shoulder forced the Ducati rider to pull out.
The American broke his left scapula and fractured two ribs when he fell while training shortly after Christmas. Although he managed 33 laps on the opening day of testing yesterday, today proved harder still.
"I was okay when I first went out this morning, and on my second lap I managed to make a pretty decent step from yesterday," said Hayden. "After that I lost strength in the shoulder and wasn't really able to ride fast or consistently enough to test much.
"I'm okay under braking because I can lock my shoulder out, but when the bike shakes I don't have enough strength to hold on. I didn't want to crash and cause bigger problems, so I just decided to chill out. It's a bit of a bummer, but that's how it goes sometimes."
Despite being unable to complete much mileage, Hayden said he had seen enough to share team-mate Valentino Rossi's optimism about the 2012 Ducati.
"They've done a great job with the new bike, and you can see just from looking at it that it's really slick," he said. "I just wish I could ride it closer to the edge and really see what it does and how it reacts to changes."
Hayden doubts he will be able to do much running on the final day of the test tomorrow.
"Maybe I'll do a few more exits tomorrow, but that's about it," he said.
