Williams to have 2012 car for first Jerez test
"We’ll be ready to go to the first test in early February"
Monday 19 December 2011 - 08h13, by GMM Williams aims to have its 2012 car up and running for the first test of the official pre-season, technical director Mike Coughlan has revealed.
When Mercedes announced that its next single seater will only be ready for the second test - taking place two weeks after Jerez in early February - it triggered speculation other teams might tread a similar path.
But Ferrari and Red Bull have said they want to be ready for Jerez, and Oxfordshire based Williams has a similar plan.
"The car is slated to be delivered to the race shop in mid-January and we’ll be ready to go to the first test in early February," Coughlan told Williams’ magazine.
He said one Renault-powered FW34 is already built "and we’ll shortly start our FIA crash test programme".
Coughlan added that the car has already passed the FIA-standard tests "in private testing".
Williams finished the 2011 season in a lowly ninth place.

The McLaren MP4-27 will break cover on February 1
MP4-27 launches in February
Monday 19 December 2011 - 12h30, by Olivier Ferret It may be the end of our year, but, as John Lennon once famously reassured us, a new one is just around the corner. That’s right, nothing stands still in Formula 1 – and what better way to prepare for a new grand prix season than by learning the date of the launch of the new Vodafone McLaren Mercedes car?
The MP4-27 will break cover on Wednesday February 1 2012. Where? Well, we’re keeping the location close to our collective chests until after the new year! What’s the matter, don’t you like surprises at Christmas?
The MP4-27 will test for the first time at Jerez on February 7-9.

Ferrari to launch new car on February 3
Montezemolo says ’no’ to Italian presidency reports
Thursday 22 December 2011 - 14h52, by GMM Luca di Montezemolo on Thursday clarified reports that he intends to stand for the Italian presidency in 2013.
The Ferrari president’s letter to members of his political think-tank Italia Futura this week was interpreted by some as his announcement of a tilt at the top job.
"Going into politics? No I’m with Ferrari," he clarified, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Montezemolo took the opportunity of the media event at Fiorano to announce the launch date of Ferrari’s 2012 car — 3 February.
And he also addressed rumours about Felipe Massa’s future, insisting that while the Brazilian "could continue" beyond 2012, the Maranello based team is "always looking around".
Gazzetta reporter Andrea Cremonesi claimed Ferrari has "approached" drivers including Jenson Button, Nico Rosberg and Mark Webber "in recent months".

Marussia delays 2012 car track debut until March
"Unfortunately our programme has slipped"
Wednesday 25 January 2012 - 07h49, by GMM Marussia will sit out the forthcoming first test of the 2012 pre-season.
And it has also emerged that the former Virgin team’s new single seater will not make an appearance until the third and final test of the winter in Barcelona.
Kevin Eason, the London newspaper The Times’ veteran F1 correspondent, said the news is "worrying".
After finishing its first two seasons dead last, however, the team has gone back to the drawing board with what boss John Booth describes as an "almost entirely new (car), with very little carry over".
"Unfortunately our programme has slipped and there seems little point in fielding the new car before we can optimise the run plan for it.
"So the plan is to run the 2011 (car) in Barcelona from 21 February and the new (2012 car) MR01 from 1 March at the second Barcelona test," the team explained on Twitter.
"We will hopefully gain more constructive track time than we might otherwise have achieved had we rushed the new car out for the second test," added Booth.
Previously, Marussia planned to be at the forthcoming Jerez test with the 2011 car to give rookie Charles Pic some mileage.

Toro Rosso to launch next Monday
31 January 2012
Toro Rosso has confirmed that it will launch its 2012 car, the STR7, in the Jerez pit lane next Monday. This year, the Faenza-based squad originally known as Minardi will be running Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Éric Vergne. In confirming 6 February as a launch date, Toro Rosso is the third Formula 1 team to present its car on Monday.
Proceedings will be organised by Spanish petroleum company Cepsa, ironically a sponsor of former Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari, and begin at 5:30pm (GMT +1). In attendance will be both race drivers plus Team Principal Franz Tost and Technical Director Giorgio Ascanelli.
For the fifth consecutive season, the car is powered by a Ferrari engine. Ricciardo will be first to test when official pre-season running begins one day later. Also launching their cars on Monday will be Sauber and Toro Rosso sister team Red Bull Racing.

F1 launch week begins
30 January 2012
It may not be an official title, but the start of February marks a week of new beginnings in Formula 1. Following the early launch of Caterham, no less than six brand-new cars will be unveiled between now and next Monday.
Perhaps somewhat less outlandish than they used to be, F1 car launches mark a significantly edgy time for those in charge. The smiles will be in abundance on the day but, with testing starting in Jerez next week, the nerves will definitely be up!
