McLaren boss Whitmarsh defends Button
"Jenson, like Fernando, is battle hardened and experienced"
Thursday 8 September 2011 - 09h59, by GMM McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh has defended Jenson Button.
The 2009 world champion is pushing his British employer to trigger the option in his contract for next season, amid reports Whitmarsh would actually like to sign him up for a much longer term.
Some observers, however, are wondering why McLaren does not go onto the market for a new teammate for Lewis Hamilton, with Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg for example still yet to get a true top car.
"Jenson, like Fernando (Alonso), is battle hardened and experienced, but becoming a little more relaxed, intelligent and very cool in the cockpit," Briton Whitmarsh told Die Welt newspaper when asked about his countryman.
"There are people who feel he does not give everything, or risk everything, but I ask the question: how then have we seen from him this year things like Hungary, Canada and Belgium?"
Whitmarsh suggested that - with Button - Hamilton and Alonso are among the best drivers in F1 at present.
"All three are absolutely brilliant, each in his way. It is hard to compare them," he told the German newspaper, "just as you can’t compare Picasso with van Gogh."
Asked, however, if he feels his career is missing something without a world championship, Mark Webber used the example of Button to point out that titles are not everything.
"Yes it would be great to have a world championship," the Australian told The National newspaper, "but I have many special victories against tough competition.
"Unfortunately, when I got myself in a good car, I had Sebastian (Vettel) as a teammate.
"Jenson didn’t have that at Brawn; he had Rubens (Barrichello), so there are a lot of one-championship drivers that have had a phenomenal car, but no real competition," added Webber.

Can I be a little over the moon that McLaren seem to really like Jenson? His improvement since being there has earned him the seat and I am so happy that McLaren seem to be fighting to keep him till the end of his career! I would hate to see Jenson doing something silly. He is prone to silly decisions. I'll find the article I was reading at work and post it . Again I am just so proud of him .

Button says McLaren ’listening more’ now
"I don’t think I am having more of a say but I think they are listening more"
Tuesday 13 September 2011 - 11h05, by GMM There is an increasing feeling in the F1 paddock that Jenson Button is taking up the mantle as McLaren’s team leader.
When the 2009 world champion joined the famous British team last year, many observers likened becoming Lewis Hamilton’s new teammate to stepping into the "lion’s den".
But Hamilton has had a troubled 2011, with Button nine points ahead of his countryman in the points standings.
Button is quoted by the Telegraph as claiming he is driving better now than he did when he won the title at Brawn in 2009.
"It is to do with confidence after winning the world championship," said the 31-year-old, "feeling the team around me and being in a good place off the circuit.
"I took my engineers and mechanics out for dinner on Saturday night in Italy. It is not for a competitive edge over Lewis’s side of the garage, it was to pay them back for all the hard work they have done," he added.
Button also said he is playing a solid role in the development of McLaren’s 2012 car, "and they are really listening to what I have to say".
"Every time I drive the simulator we test something that I specifically want.
"I don’t think I am having more of a say but I think they are listening more, which is nice," he added.

Its nice to know that McLaren will be taking up Jenson's option. It just proves how much his stock has gone up since driving for them.
It is also brilliant to know they are listening more. When he first went to the team he was going to Lewis's team so the mechanics were bound to have a bond with Lewis and listen to Lewis who they knew how to work with. And it isn't always easy to talk to mechanics so it is really nice that Jenson has now got a good bond with his mechanics and they are all working together brilliantly.

Jenson beating Lewis off track too
Jenson Button was yesterday crowned ‘Britain’s Best Looking Bloke’ in a poll conducted by Wizard Jeans, who also run the ‘Rear of the Year’ awards which this year were shockingly NOT won by Pippa Middleton’s scene stealing derriere.
Jenson won the… poll ahead of McLaren teammate, Lewis Hamilton, who could only manage fourteenth out of twenty entrants, no doubt losing votes because of his silly chin strap beard. Button also beat the likes of Daniel Craig, David Beckham and last year’s winner Colin Firth.
When this earth shattering piece of news reached the Monza paddock, McLaren were said to be delighted at their driver winning a title, probably the only one they’ll get a sniff of for the next few years.

Not sure how Jenson or Lewis managed to get into the top 20 it really IS brilliant that Jensey won it! Britain is full of talentless pretty boys. And no Fiona, Jenson isn't talentless... Or a pretty boy. He's just Jenson.

It would be fun to see Jenson rub it into Lewis's face. They are equal on wins this season and Jenson might beat him in the championship.
Not only that but he is more attractive. Apparently. Didn't see it coming tbh, Jenson's pretty boy days where far behind and I was damn sure people were confused as to who he is world champion or not.

Speculation linking Jenson Button with a move to Ferrari is refusing to go away.
Both Ferrari and Button issued strong denials in June that the Briton would replace Felipe Massa at Maranello next season.
The McLaren driver laughed off the claims saying: "It's hilarious because it's not true. I don't know who put that out there, but it wasn't us and it wasn't Ferrari. I think it's just some column inches."
Ferrari, meanwhile, described the reports as "just a load of twaddle".
The rumours, though, have resurfaced and the 31-year-old Button is now being linked with a move to the Italian marque for the 2013 season.
Button's current two-year deal with McLaren runs out at the end of this season but the team have an option on him for next year.
Although both parties have indicated that the 12-month extension will be taken up, there is a sticking point over the length of a new contract as McLaren want to tie Button down beyond 2012 while the former World Champion doesn't want to sign into a long-term deal.
If Button gets his way then it would leave the door open for him to join Ferrari in 2013 as Massa's deal expires at the end of next year.
According to Jornal da Tarde journalist Livio Oricchio, 'Button is interested in Ferrari. And Ferrari is interested in Button' for the 2013 season. He adds that 'Button has the right profile of a Ferrari driver' and has the 'backing of (Fernando) Alonso'.

Doubt that would happen, its the strangest rumor. Ferrari have a bunch of development drivers they seem to think highly of, and yeah.. That is just a strange rumor. Not going to dream of Jenson in red, or the fact he'd go to Wroom hopefully with Nicky there I hate rumors.
