Rosberg denied visa for Indian GP - report
"Almost 90 per cent of F1 people, me included, won’t attend the race"
Thursday 15 September 2011 - 11h25, by GMM Nico Rosberg is reportedly yet to receive a visa to enter India for the country’s inaugural formula one grand prix.
That is the claim of the Times of India, revealing that other F1 team members and journalists are experiencing simular difficulties whilst preparing to travel to Delhi next month.
The rumours had begun to emerge in the Monza paddock last weekend.
"I just came back from Monza where people have been complaining about how difficult it is to get visas for the trip to India," said Team Lotus reserve driver Karun Chandhok, whose father Vicky is the head of India’s motor sport clubs.
Amid the recent tax and customs issue surrounding F1’s freight, the Indian government admitted this week that it does not regard the grand prix - organised by a fully private entity - as an "event of national importance".
One figure who has had his visa application rejected, according to the Times of India, is Mercedes driver Rosberg.
The same is also true for "half" of the HRT team, the newspaper added.
Even the FIA’s head of communications (photo) is still waiting for his visa.
"If the government takes three weeks to process a visa application, almost 90 per cent of F1 people, me included, won’t attend the race," Matteo Bonciani warned.

Rosberg fined for not speaking to stewards right after FP2 in Korea By Jonathan Noble Friday, October 14th 2011, 10:19 GMT
Nico Rosberg, MercedesNico Rosberg has been fined 10,000 Euros, of which 5,000 Euros will be suspended, for failing to visit the stewards in a 'timely' manner after second free practice.
The Mercedes GP driver was summoned to see the stewards for his involvement in a collision with Jaime Alguersuari in FP2.
Although there was no doubt Rosberg had collided with Alguersuari, the stewards decided that because of the circumstances of his crash, and the fact he had no previous offences, that he would escape a punishment.
A statement from the stewards said: "The stewards having regard to the extenuating circumstances involving the Pit Exit, the wet track and the telemetry which indicated the Driver of Car 8 was on full braking from the time where he apparently noticed Car 19, and further, taking into account Mr Rosberg's good record during his years in Formula 1, decide to impose no penalty."
Despite escaping the punishment for his part in the collision, the stewards were not impressed that Rosberg did not attend his meeting with them as soon as he could.
AUTOSPORT understands that part of the issue was the fact that Rosberg spoke to the media for his regular post-practice interviews before visiting the stewards. In those interviews, Rosberg talked about his views on the incident.
Article B of the 2011 FIA International Sporting Code relating to 'Obligation of Co-operation' states: "All FIA Licence-Holders and all Participants in International Events undertake to cooperate fully and entirely with any disciplinary investigation conducted by the FIA."
For not visiting the stewards in time, Rosberg was fined 10,000 Euros, with half of that being suspended pending no similar breach occurring during the next 12 months. He can, in theory, appeal that decision though.

2012 Ferrari seat for Rosberg ’possible’ - Coulthard
"Ferrari probably have no choice but to look for another driver"
Thursday 3 November 2011 - 15h16, by GMM David Coulthard thinks it is possible Ferrari will soon oust Felipe Massa.
Despite Brazilian Massa having a contract for 2012, recent speculation has linked the race seat alongside Fernando Alonso next year with Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg.
"In formula one, anything’s possible," said former grand prix winner and now British pundit Coulthard, appearing on Austrian television Servus TV.
"I’ve learned that in my 17 years (in F1)," he added.
Coulthard said that when it comes to one of the most coveted seats in the sport, only performance matters.
"He’s a very nice, likeable guy who drives with his heart," said the Scot. "But he no longer shows the sort of performance he did before his accident in Hungary (2009).
"Ferrari probably have no choice but to look for another driver."
Coulthard agreed that, in India last weekend where Massa clashed again with Lewis Hamilton and twice broke his suspension over kerbs, the 30-year-old seemed to be buckling under the pressure of his situation.
"In formula one you’re always under pressure," he insisted.
"Even Sebastian Vettel is under pressure, just a different sort. Massa may know that his formula one career is slowly coming to an end. With these results, he will not be at Ferrari for many more years.
"Ferrari will be looking seriously at the two drivers it has and deciding what is the strongest possible package they can have for 2012," added Coulthard.

2011 end of term report – Nico Rosberg
89 points, 7th in the drivers’ championship
Thursday 22 December 2011 - 17h32, by Sandrine Bouchard On the eve of the 2011 season, Nico Rosberg had high expectations and hoped to be given a car that would help him to finally take his first win. Unfortunately, the Mercedes MGP W02 was not competitive enough to get on the podium. He still had the satisfaction of outperforming his teammate Michael Schumacher.
Season review
After a promising 2010 campaign, Nico Rosberg was positive at the start of the year. After some really good performances in winter testing, he had every reason to be optimistic. Unfortunately, come the start of the season, the situation was quite different.
Rosberg qualified 7th for the season’s opener at Melbourne and was 8th in the race when he was hit by Rubens Barrichello. His car was too badly damaged to continue. Two weeks later, in Malaysia, the German qualified in the top ten but took the chequered flag in 12th position. For the first time of his career, Rosberg was empty handed after the first two races.
He had an excellent weekend in China, qualifying on the second row of the grid and finishing the race in the top five. A podium may have been on the cards, had he not been forced to save fuel in the closing parts of the race. He also qualified on the second row in Turkey and took a second consecutive fifth-place finish.
He couldn’t maintain this form in Spain and crossed the finish line in 7th place. He was out of the points at Monaco and Montréal. After seven Grand Prix, Rosberg had scored 26 points and was 10th in the championship. He came back in the top ten at Valencia and consistently finished in the points in the second part of the season.
In Belgium, he made a good start and managed to keep at bay some more competitive cars. Fifth on the grid, he stormed in the lead in the opening lap. As the race went on, he lost some positions and finished in 6th place behind his teammate. In Italy, he was taken out of the race by Liuzzi at the first corner.
Conclusion
2011 marked Nico Rosberg’s sixth season in Formula One. With 108 Grand Prix under his belt, the German is considered one of the best drivers on the grid. However, he is still chasing his first Grand Prix win. He made the most of his MGP W02 but couldn’t challenge the top teams’ drivers. His consistency helped him to 7th in the drivers’ championship.
Performance-wise, Rosberg did better than his seven-time World Champion teammate. He out-qualified him 16 times out of 19. On Sundays, the Mercedes drivers were closely matched and had some interesting fights. Rosberg came out on top but the gap was much closer than in 2010.
