Räikkönen excluded from World Rally standings
9 September 2011 Kimi Räikkönen has been excluded from the World Rally Championship’s final standings of 2011 after failing to take part in this weekend’s Rally Australia. The Finn, Formula 1 World Champion of 2007, had signed up to contest seven events, two of which had to be outside of Europe.
The situation has occurred as Räikkönen’s Ice1 Racing squad is officially entered in the WRC class, meaning it must take part in the events it nominates at the start of the season. Despite entering the rally of Jordan earlier in the season, failure to be present in Australia results in not just the championship exclusion but also a fine of €16,200 (just over £14,000).
A stewards’ statement reads as follows:
‘Having considered the provisions of the 2011 FIA World Rally Championship Sporting Regulations and specifically article 7.3.8, the stewards decide to require the team Ice 1 Racing to pay the entry fee to the organisers of the 2011 Rally Australia, to pay the FIA a fine equal to the amount of the registration fee being €16,000 to exclude Ice1 Racing from the classification of the championship.’

That is rather silly on Kimi's part. I don't have a clue about WRC. So did they nominate going to Australia? Is there only 2 races outisde Europe? I'm a tad confused but it does look like they've brought it on themselves!

Räikkönen makes visit to Williams factory 16 September 2011
It is believed 2007 World Champion Kimi Räikkönen made a visit to Williams’ Formula 1 factory in Grove earlier this week. The exact reasons are unknown, although the team has not denied the appointment.
Reports first emerged in the Finnish press, with Räikkönen expected to have been viewing the Williams-built Jaguar C-X75 supercar as opposed to any F1-related talks.
“It was a private visit so we don't actually have a comment to make,” a team spokesperson said when contacted by GPUpdate.net on Friday.

Sep.21 (GMM) 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen’s plans for 2012 do not include Formula 1, according to the Finnish evening daily Ilta-Sanomat.
The report follows speculation that Raikkonen – who leftF1 at the end of 2009 to begin his forays in world rallying, NASCAR and Le Mans sportscars – recently visited the headquarters of famous British team Williams.
“Yes, Kimi Raikkonen visited the Williams factory”, Ilta-Sanomat confirmed, “but that (a return to F1) is not the way forward” for the 31-year-old Finn.
The report said 18-time grand prix winner Raikkonen, who between 2002 and 2009 drove for frontrunners McLaren and Ferrari, is “convinced that his time at the pinnacle of motor sport came to an end when he left Ferrari”.
Ilta-Sanomat said Raikkonen “wants to be in world rally, the legendary Daytona 500 and Indianapolis 500, and the 24 hours of Le Mans” next year.

This one made me laugh Kimi Raikkonen, a man in demand, apparently. Kimi Raikkonen, a man in demand, apparently. The Singapore F1 Paddock was buzzing on Thursday night with the news that former F1 World Champion, Kimi Raikkonen, had recently paid a visit to the Williams team. The visit was said to be private, though not so private it… could not be leaked to the Finnish press, who got themselves into a terrible lather over the whole thing. Indeed, one Finnish paper reported that in addition to the ‘news’ about Williams, Kimi was looking at competing in the World Rally Championship, Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500 and the Le Mans 24 hours. All this, despite Raikkonen not being that good at driving anything since 2007. Other reports said Kimi was going to attempt the Land Speed Record, participate in the Tour de France, represent Finland in the 100 metres at the Olympics and that NASA was considering restarting its Space Shuttle programme for an off planet trip, which is quite apt really, as that is where the journalists who come up with this stuff must reside.

Henning Solberg confirms that Kimi Raikkonen hit him in Rally of France road section crash By David Evans Friday, September 30th 2011, 11:20 GMT
Henning Solberg has confirmed Kimi Raikkonen crashed into the back of his Ford Fiesta RS WRC ahead of the start of the third stage on Rally de France.
Former Formula 1 world champion Raikkonen has retired from the opening day of the Strasbourg-based rally with damaged suspension after the impact and resultant trip to a ditch.
Solberg, who was less than a mile from the start of the stage when the crash happened, said: "I was just driving in a straight line on a straight road. I wasn't weaving to warm up the tyre or anything like that, just driving.
"I felt the hit from the back of the car, but it was soft, not a big impact or anything. When I looked in the mirror I saw Raikkonen flying off and into the ditch. I don't know what happened."
Raikkonen was unable to retrieve his Citroen from the ditch and retired on the spot.
Solberg's co-driver Ilka Minor added: "It was really strange. I was just fastening the belts for the start of the stage when they hit us. I think maybe he lost concentration for a millisecond or something like that."
